Get to know me!

Mark J. Joyce, M.A., LMHC

Professional identity

As a licensed mental health clinician, I utilize a combination of evidence-based interventions and genuine compassion, empathy, and belief in growth through the therapy process. My background is in cognitive behavioral therapy, with training in dialectical behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. I have experience working with teenagers and adults of all ages in addressing struggles related to anxiety, depression, addiction, grief & loss, life transitions, and trauma. I am also interested in the role technology plays in one’s experience of mental health symptoms and have completed research on the impact of smartphone addiction in college age individuals.
Background and training

I attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst and obtained a BA in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. After several years of working in children and adolescent inpatient programs, I received my Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology at Assumption College.  While at Assumption College, I worked as a research fellow observing the link between adverse childhood experiences and college age functioning, as well as the connection between smartphone addiction and psychological well-being in college age individuals.

Since obtaining my Graduate Degree, I have worked with adults in outpatient substance use treatment and community based mental health treatment. My experience in working with a wide range of populations with varying goals will allow us to work collaboratively toward your goals and ambitions.

Personal identity

I have lived and worked in Worcester, Massachusetts for the past decade and plan to reside in this amazingly unique part of our state for the remainder of my days. When not engaging in professional, counseling related endeavors - I can be found spending time with my two dogs, preparing for powerlifting competitions at a local gym, or turning compost for my home garden. I find that incorporating mindfulness and cognitive behavioral techniques assist me greatly with feeling fulfilled while engaging in multiple hobbies and I hope I can impart some of that wisdom to you during our time together.
